Push the Boat Out 2024 set sail on 22 November at the Scottish Storytelling Centre ✨
We kicked off the festival programme with SCOREScotland Disrupts the Narrative – an electrifying collaboration with Tinderbox Collective and Bee Asha. SCOREScotland’s young creatives delivered a powerful spoken word and music performance, exploring what it means to grow up as a young person of colour in Edinburgh today.
Next, we presented Disrupting the Narrative, a brand-new theatrical performance directed by Edinburgh’s outgoing Makar, Hannah Lavery. Featuring poetry from Jeda Pearl, Shasta Ali, Niall Moorjani, and Alycia Pirmohamed, set to an evocative score by composer Niroshini Thambar, this thought-provoking piece reimagined Edinburgh’s colonial past and its lasting impact. Paired with stunning photography by Kat Gollock, the performance challenges us to ask: how well do you really know your city?
The Scotsman’s Joyce McMillan gave it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ saying that ‘it deserves an even wider audience than the enthusiastic packed house it drew to the Scottish Storytelling Centre’.
SCOREScotland Disrupts the Narrative and Disrupting the Narrative were developed with support from the Edinburgh900 anniversary programme.
