Sam Firth
Sam Firth is an award=winning filmmaker whose work treads the line between film and poetry, documentary and fiction, the personal and the political. Her work often explores the relationship between subject matter and form. Her award-winning short films include ID (2009) made entirely from 1980s passport photos, Stay the Same (2013) filmed in the same spot every day for a year, and Field Notes on Love (2017), which is available on BBC iPlayer. In 2022 she won the BFI Chanel Filmmaker Award for her first feature length film The Wolf Suit, which was released on Amazon in 2023. Tilda Swinton, who chaired the award panel, said, “Through her body of work, we found Sam to be doing something completely mysterious – producing work that is consistently extraordinary and very personal, yet all very different. This is not a filmmaker who fits neatly into a box or can easily be defined”.
