Rachel Rankin

Rachel Rankin is a poet, translator, language tutor and poetry translation researcher from Coatbridge, currently based in Edinburgh. Her poems and translations have been published in The Poetry Review, Modern Poetry in Translation, Magma, Anthropocene and Words Without Borders, among others. Rachel’s work has also been recognised by the Grierson Verse Prize, the Manchester Cathedral Poetry Prize, the Wigtown Poetry Prize, the Stephen Spender Prize and the Scottish Book Trust New Writers Awards. Rachel holds a PhD in Scandinavian Studies from the University of Edinburgh. Her thesis, entitled “Exploring (un)translatability: a practice-based case study on translation of Norwegian poetry”, is a creative illustration of the debate surrounding poetic translatability, and Rachel has delivered talks and lectures on her research for the International Network for the Study of Lyric, the British Centre for Literary Translation, and the Northern Scholars Lecture Series at the University of Edinburgh.
