Garry MacKenzie

Garry MacKenzie is a poet and non-fiction writer from Fife. His book-length poem Ben Dorain: a conversation with a mountain was published by Irish Pages Press in 2021; it was shortlisted for a Scottish National Book Award and longlisted for the Highland Book Prize. His pamphlets ring-net (2023) and Three Ways of Looking at the Forth (2024) are published by Clutag Press, and his e-pamphlet Glacier (2025) is published by Wind&Bones. His poetry explores the meanings of landscapes, how we relate to other species, and ways in which environmental crisis affects how we understand the world around us. He has collaborated with visual artists and filmmakers, and has also published a non-fiction book Scotland: A Literary Guide for Travellers (I.B. Tauris / Bloomsbury, 2016). His next collection, Firth, a portrait of the environmental and social histories and futures of the Firth of Forth, will be published in early 2026.
